This seal was used to sign letters of appointment for provincial governors.
It is one of the eleven royal and national seals of Joseon (1392-1897) remolded and repaired in 1876. Exquisitely described in Boinso Uigwe (the Royal Protocol on the Royal Seals) are the dimension, medium, and shape of the seal. The seal was finally returned to Korea in 2014 sixty years after having been taken out of the country.
